SHED
Each morning, the carpenter gently bows his head in submission towards his tools. At the end of the day, he folds his hands towards his instruments, touching them and then swiftly taking his fingers to the eyes, while muttering thanks to the powers up above for watching out for him thus far.

SHED is an independent design studio founded by Priyanka Shah in 2014, after graduating from Parsons in New York.
The practice builds everyday objects that
hold layered stories and material detail.
The team includes architects, carpenters, lathe turners, and pigment specialists, all exploring different narratives in making.

My personal design journey began after Architecture at Parsons - I was utterly nostalgic for India…
I found many stories from the basement of my dad's diamond factory: one very confident production manager proudly challenged me to bring him any machinery part from anywhere in the world and Varachha (the neighbourhood in Surat where most diamonds are made) will be able to replicate it…
It was this very spirit that I came back for - I knew that here are people who think and believe they can make anything… One thing led to another — (I’ll say I started believing this myself too, it’s an infectious feeling, this one!) and today, we are 45 who test this out everyday!
